Is there such a thing as too much - vitamins that is ?

Posted on December 24 2017

Quality vitamin nutrition is needed to maintain a proper health status while protecting the body against diseases. Vitamins control cogent body processes, such as immune functions, cell renewal, and bone strengthening. Although we derive most nutrients we need from foods, they don’t normally contain all recommended dietary allowance (RDA) of most vitamins. Vitamin supplements, and sometimes vitamins injection are the alternative ways by which the necessary quality vitamins are obtained while maintaining the usual balanced diet.

Vitamin toxicity is often caused by the continuous intake of a particular vitamin. Again, it is essential that you consume the recommended dietary allowance for the normal and proper functioning of the body. Vitamin toxicity can occur when you focus on a particular food source, thereby deriving the same type of vitamin. We must emphasize that there are different types of vitamins each with their different functions. These categories of vitamins are discussed in the later part of this article.

We all know that we need vitamins, minerals, and herbs from our foods. But, even if we eat well, and most of us don't, we still need some supplements to our food intake for various reasons or for specific requirements. Often we don't really understand the contribution that each of these nutrients brings to our body maintenance, function, and wellness. Because of that, we neglect to give what our boy requires. Let's take a look at the role of vitamins in our body.

Vitamins are organic compound micro-nutrients required for the health and functioning of the entire body. They are necessary for the regulation of the metabolism and assisting the biochemical processes of the digestive and other body systems and the maintenance of good health and well-being.

There are several types of vitamins, many of them you already know or have heard of. However, there are more types then the common names were given to them as laypeople may know. Some vitamins work with enzymes, some work better or are enhanced with minerals and herbs, some are water-soluble, some are oil soluble, some are natural, crystalline and synthetic.

Sources of vitamins

Multivitamins simply refer to an aggregate of several vitamins and minerals in a single dose. This is useful for people on strict diets, such as weight watchers and diabetics. This is because food restrictions often keep them away from getting the quality of vitamins they needed.

However, it should be noted that some vitamins and minerals are naturally not meant to work together. Hence, whenever you plan to buy a multi-vitamin product, make sure you check for the compositions or easily buy from a reputable laboratory or retail outlet.

Single vitamins are frequently used and recommended for people with specific vitamins deficiency. The types of these vitamins are:
Vitamin A helps with clearer vision, rapid cell renewal, and enhanced bone development
Vitamin B-complex - include vitamin B1, B2, and B3.
Vitamin C is a very popular vitamin type. It is a very good antioxidant and frequently used by people with wounds and cuts.
Vitamin D helps to enhance bone strengthening and formation of new ones. Vitamin D deficiency in children’s diet can cause rickets or soft bones which can cause physical deformities.
Vitamin E majorly helps to prevent the skin from ultraviolet damages and also prevents the symptoms of aging.
Herbal supplements are another good source of vitamins. Many people prefer herbal supplements because they are easier to absorb and digest. They are obtained from naturally-occurring substances and hence, a less risk of side effects.

The bottom line is there are different types of vitamin sources on the market today. However, not all of them may work for you. In case you need to get vitamin nutrition, make sure you do so from a trusted laboratory or medical retail outlet.

Also, consult your doctor to make appropriate recommendations on the type of vitamin diet to take.

More so, it is essential that you avoid vitamin toxicity in all sense. Unless otherwise recommended, always include all vitamins types in your diet for normal body functioning.
